An elderly man in Palamu lost ₹40 lakhs over 12 years due to sex extortion. Police are investigating cybercriminals and tracing bank account details.
Palamu : In a shocking revelation from Palamu’s Medininagar area, an elderly man has been blackmailed for 12 years, losing ₹40 lakhs in a sex extortion scheme. The man fell victim to this scam in 2014 when he was lured through a video call. Over the years, multiple criminals blackmailed him, extracting money in installments, totaling ₹40 lakhs.
The incident came to light during the recent public grievance redressal program conducted by the Palamu police. The elderly man disclosed the extortion case, stating that the scam was related to transactions involving books, which had been used as a front for the fraud.
Following this revelation, senior police officers entrusted the investigation to a probationary IPS officer. As the investigation progressed, it was confirmed that the elderly man was a victim of sex extortion. The police are now focusing on cyber criminals involved in the crime and are tracing the bank accounts that received the extorted money.
Devvrat Poddar, the in-charge of Medininagar Town Police Station, confirmed the case and assured that the police are conducting a thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice.
