Ranchi Police Busts Scam Targeting Senior Officer Transfers
Ranchi Police uncovers a scam targeting senior officers, promising transfers and postings for ₹1.5 crore. Two suspects detained; investigation reveals three more accomplices.
Ranchi: A major scam involving the promise of facilitating transfers and postings of senior administrative and police officers in Jharkhand has come to light. Ranchi Police, acting on a tip-off, detained two individuals and uncovered information about three other members of the group. The police have seized their mobile phones and launched an investigation into the matter.
Secret Tip Reveals Scam
Ranchi Police received an anonymous phone call informing them about a group attempting to defraud senior officers by promising favorable transfers, postings, and contract/tender management. Acting on the tip, the Kotwali police station registered a case and detained two suspects—Sajjad alias Munna from Ali Residency and Captain Singh Saluja from Bansal Plaza, Station Road.
Attempt to Extort ₹1.5 Crore
Preliminary investigations revealed that the group attempted to extort ₹1.5 crore from officers, including IPS, DSP, and inspectors, under the pretext of arranging their transfers. However, no official has filed a formal complaint so far, likely due to fear of getting implicated. The police are working to identify the victims and track the group’s operations.
Names of Three More Members Surface
During interrogation, the police obtained the names of three additional members of the group: Ayan Sarkar from Sonari, Jamshedpur; Chandan Lal from Haldi Pokhar; and Surya Prabhat from Kadru, Ranchi. The police are now tracing these individuals and preparing for further action against them.
Phones Seized; Accused Released on Bond
The two detained suspects, Sajjad and Saluja, were released on PR bonds after their questioning. However, their mobile phones have been confiscated for forensic analysis. Investigators are examining the phones to identify the senior administrative and police officers targeted by the group and to uncover how the network operated.
CID Probe Likely
Given the seriousness of the case, it is likely that the investigation will be handed over to the CID. For now, the police are focused on the initial probe and are urging senior officials to remain cautious about such fraudulent activities.
Officials Hesitant to File Complaints
Despite the scam being uncovered, none of the targeted officials have come forward to file a complaint, likely due to fears of being implicated or exposed. The police are handling the case with sensitivity to ensure no innocent party is harmed.
Ongoing Investigation
Ranchi Police stated that they will intensify their efforts once the other members of the group are located. The investigation aims to dismantle the entire fraud network and prevent similar scams from occurring in the future.
