The design of the flyover being built to connect Kantatoli and Sirmatoli flyovers is set to change. The project will no longer require 10 feet of land from the Sarna site near Bahu Bazaar. Instead, engineers will use a new technology called single-span cantilever to construct the elevated flyover. This change ensures that no additional land from Bahu Bazaar to Sirmatoli Chowk will be needed.
On Tuesday, Executive Engineer Vinod Kachhap from the Road Construction Division, along with engineers from L&T, visited the site. They met with members of the Central Sarna Committee and local residents to hear their concerns. As a result, the flyover design will be revised and sent for approval before construction continues.
The 1.25 km-long flyover, which will link Kantatoli and Sirmatoli flyovers, has already started with soil testing and piling work. However, protests arose when land acquisition markings showed that the Sarna site and nearby shops would be affected.
DC Assures No Impact on Religious Site
In response to the protests, a delegation from the Central Sarna Committee met with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Manjunath Bhajantri. They raised concerns about the land acquisition affecting the Sarna site. The DC assured the committee that the religious site would remain untouched and directed the engineers to find an alternative solution.
Following this, the engineers visited the site and agreed on a new design to address the concerns. Key members of the Central Sarna Committee, including President Ajay Tirkey, were present during the inspection.
₹180 Crore Flyover Project to Improve Traffic Flow
The ₹180 crore project aims to build a 1.25 km connecting flyover, which will link Kantatoli and Sirmatoli flyovers. This will complete a 6 km-long elevated corridor from Shanti Nagar in Kokar to Mecon Chowk.
Currently, drivers using the Kantatoli flyover must descend near Yogda Ashram and drive on the ground-level roads before going up again to the Sirmatoli-Mecon flyover. Once completed, the new connecting flyover will allow vehicles to travel directly from Kokar Road to Mecon Chowk without needing to descend onto the roads below.
