Chatra: In a bold move against illegal drug trade, the Chatra administration has destroyed a two-acre opium crop in the Bongagarda area of Dhangadda Panchayat. The operation, led by CO Vijay Das, involved a joint team of police and forest department officials who took swift action after receiving a tip-off about illicit opium farming.
Despite ongoing awareness campaigns and strict warnings, some individuals had continued cultivating opium, putting local communities at risk. The team, armed with sticks, uprooted the crop in a remote, jungle area.
While no arrests have been made so far, the administration has sent a strong message to those involved in the illegal trade. Police station in-charge Umesh Ram emphasized that similar actions would continue across the district to curb opium cultivation.
As part of the crackdown, local representatives have been urged to conduct awareness camps, educating villagers about the dangers of opium farming. Authorities have also warned that legal action will be taken against those failing to report such illegal activities.
The administration’s tough stance signals its commitment to eradicating the opium trade and safeguarding the community from its harmful effects.
