In a major operation, Palamu police thwarted a Naxal plot by recovering an 8-kilogram landmine and a homemade pistol from Dudiya jungle. The explosives were hidden by Maoists to target security forces. The police, involving multiple stations, neutralized the threat and intensified their search for Naxal groups in the region.
Palamu: The police in Palamu district have successfully thwarted a major Naxal plot. During a search operation in the Dudiya jungle, an 8-kilogram landmine and a homemade pistol were recovered. The Naxals had hidden these explosives in the forest, presumably to cause damage to security forces or carry out an attack. The police have been conducting ongoing search operations against the banned CPI (Maoist) group.
Search Operation in Dudiya Jungle
Dudiya jungle, located on the main road connecting Mohammadganj to Husahinabad, has seen a noticeable Naxal presence. Local residents had been reporting Maoist activities in the area, prompting the police from multiple stations to launch a thorough search operation.
Multiple Police Teams Involved in the Operation
Officers from three police stations—Pandu, Uthari Road, and Jaguar—had been scouring the jungle for several days, aiming to curb Maoist activities in the region. The landmine and weapon were found in a section of the jungle previously planted with saplings by the Forest Department.
8-Kilogram IED Destroyed
The 8-kilogram explosive device found during the search operation was safely neutralized by the police. The materials, including the weapon, were discovered around 3 PM on Friday. Intelligence had indicated that a Naxal group led by Nitish Yadav from the CPI (Maoist) was active in the forests of Palamu.
Increased Naxal Activity in the Region
Recently, the Naxals had been involved in violent incidents. They reportedly assaulted workers at a brick kiln in the Kadal Panchayat of Mohammadganj. They also visited a birthday party in Uthari block, looking for someone, though no harm was done to the attendees. The police had been receiving consistent reports of Naxal movements in the area.
Police Camped in Mahur Village
In response to the increasing Naxal activity, the police set up a camp at the government school in Mahur village, Mohammadganj, for an entire night, four days ago, as part of their search for the Maoists.
Explosion and Weapon Found Near Lohbandha Village
During a continued search operation near Dudiya jungle, about 3 kilometers from Mahur, police recovered the landmine and homemade pistol, both buried underground. The operation involved multiple police teams, including the Hussainabad SDPO, who were combing different areas for the Naxal group.
Confusion Over Location of the Seizure
There was some confusion over which police station should officially report the seizure of the explosives. Eventually, the recovery was registered under the Hussainabad Police Station’s jurisdiction.
