Weather Takes a U-Turn in Jharkhand: Temperature Drops to 8 Degrees

Jharkhand faces a sudden cold wave, with temperatures dropping to 8°C in five districts. Chilly winds intensify discomfort as hospitals report a spike in weather-related illnesses.

Ranchi : In the last week of January, Jharkhand experienced a sudden cold wave, with temperatures dropping significantly. While the skies remain clear across most parts of the state, chilly winds have intensified the cold, making it harder for people to cope.

The Meteorological Department has stated that there is no immediate relief from the cold. Early mornings are expected to witness dense fog in the plains, with partly cloudy skies during the day. However, strong winds will reduce the impact of sunlight.

Temperature Drops to 8 Degrees in 5 Districts

Out of Jharkhand’s 24 districts, 18 recorded minimum temperatures of 10 degrees or below. Bokaro was the coldest district, with the minimum temperature plummeting to 7 degrees. Additionally, five districts—Bokaro, Deoghar, Godda, East Singhbhum, and Pakur—reported minimum temperatures of 8 degrees.

Temperature Trends

While maximum temperatures saw a slight increase in districts like Bokaro, Deoghar, Godda, East Singhbhum, and Pakur, other districts, including Chatra, Garhwa, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti, and Ranchi, witnessed a further drop in temperatures.

Spike in Illness Due to Weather Fluctuations

The fluctuating temperatures have led to an increase in cases of cold, fever, and diarrhea. According to Dr. B. Kumar, a physician at RIMS, the number of patients with such ailments has risen by 10-12% over the past 10 days.

Hospitals See Surge in Patients

The RIMS Medicine Department recorded 1,450 patients, while the Child Department saw 850 cases. Similarly, Sadar Hospital treated 846 patients in the medicine department. Other hospitals across the state also reported a significant influx of patients, particularly in the medicine and pediatric departments.

The Meteorological Department predicts that dense fog and mist will persist until February 1, with mild sunshine during the day. However, the chilly winds and cold weather are expected to continue, adding to the discomfort of the people.
