Hazaribagh: The District Public Relations Office, Hazaribagh, organized a one-day seminar on “The Legacy of Hazaribagh” at the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Indoor Stadium on Friday. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Hazaribagh, Mrs. Nancy Sahay, attended the event as the chief guest.

In her address, the DC emphasized the need to understand and preserve Hazaribagh’s rich historical and cultural heritage. She urged journalists to ensure that the knowledge shared in the seminar reaches the general public. She also assured that the district administration remains committed to organizing such events to promote and protect Hazaribagh’s legacy.

Deputy Director of Public Relations, Mr. Anand, highlighted the historical significance of Hazaribagh, tracing its civilization from ancient times. He spoke about the intricate designs of rock paintings found in local Kohbar and Sohraiart, which depict the continuity of civilization in the region.

Padma Shri awardee Bulu Imam shed light on various archaeological sites in Hazaribagh, such as Dehar, Bahoranpur, Ichak, and Itkhori. He explained how the region was once a significant center for Buddhism and Jainism and stressed the need for preserving these historical treasures.

Researcher Subhashish Das discussed the importance of megalithic sites in Jharkhand, pointing out that while megaliths are highly valued worldwide, awareness about them is lacking in India, especially in Jharkhand. He urged for active efforts in the preservation of these ancient structures.

Dr. Shatrughna Pandey, a professor at St. Columba’s College, highlighted Hazaribagh’s role in the Indian freedom struggle. He revealed that the British government initially planned to imprison Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Hazaribagh Jail but later abandoned the plan due to fears of a mass rebellion. He also discussed how freedom fighters from various parts of India, including Burma, Thailand, Singapore, Punjab, Rajasthan, Manipur, and Meghalaya, were imprisoned in Hazaribagh.
