CM Hemant Soren Reviews GBS Preparedness: RIMS on High Alert

Chief Minister Hemant Soren reviewed preparations to tackle Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in Jharkhand, directing officials to focus on early detection, treatment, and public awareness. Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a review meeting at his Kanke Road residence with health department officials to assess the preparedness for preventing and treating Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). He directed authorities to ensure early identification of patients and make necessary arrangements for their treatment. Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari joined the meeting virtually, along with senior health officials, district commissioners, and civil surgeons from across the state.

Mass Awareness: The Key to Prevention

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for statewide awareness campaigns to educate the public about GBS and prevent misinformation. He instructed officials to clarify that GBS does not spread from person to person like COVID-19 but is caused by consuming contaminated water and raw food. He urged authorities to ensure that people do not panic unnecessarily and instead focus on preventive measures.

Strict Monitoring of High-Risk Areas

CM Soren directed health officials to screen travelers coming from regions where GBS cases have been reported in large numbers. Additionally, he instructed the establishment of a free testing center in Ranchi to facilitate quick diagnosis and treatment.

Hospitals to Be Fully Equipped

To tackle GBS effectively, the Chief Minister ordered all hospitals to be fully stocked with essential medicines, oxygen, and necessary infrastructure. He emphasized the need for a robust emergency referral system to ensure that any suspected case is promptly transferred to RIMS for advanced treatment. The state’s transport system has also been put on alert to facilitate the swift movement of critical patients.

RIMS Ready to Handle GBS Cases

During the review, RIMS Director Prof. (Dr.) Raj Kumar assured that the institute is fully prepared to handle GBS cases. He informed civil surgeons from all districts that detailed guidelines for prevention and treatment will be issued soon. He urged officials to refer any suspected case to RIMS immediately, as the hospital remains on high alert modefor GBS management.

The Chief Minister further directed all district civil surgeons to closely monitor updates, cases, and activities related to GBS, ensuring that preventive and treatment measures are implemented efficiently and on time.
