Ranchi: Jharkhand’s Welfare Minister Chamara Linda reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing national and international recognition to the state’s tribal artists by taking a historic step. He inaugurated the state-level Tribal Painter Camp, which aims to preserve and showcase the bravery of Jharkhand’s tribal freedom fighters through art. The camp, organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (Government of India) and the Jharkhand government, will take place from January 29 to February 1, 2025, at the Dr. Ram Dayal Munda Tribal Welfare Research Institute in Morhabadi, Ranchi.

A Significant Step in Preserving Tribal Art and Culture

Minister Chamara Linda stated, “Our government is fully committed to preserving Jharkhand’s tribal art and culture. The struggles and contributions of our tribal freedom fighters must be passed on to future generations, and this initiative will immortalize their heroic tales through art.” The camp provides an opportunity to revive the stories of these warriors and share them through the lens of tribal art.

Immortalizing the Heroes through Art

This year, on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, the camp has been organized to depict the struggles and sacrifices of Jharkhand’s great tribal freedom fighters—Birsa Munda, Sidhu-Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav, Tilka Manjhi, Veer Budhu Bhagat, and Nilambar-Pitambar—through paintings.

Using Art to Connect Generations with History

Tribal artists from all over Jharkhand will participate, utilizing various art styles like Sohrai, Kohbar, Pithora, Gond, and Warli to bring to life the freedom fighters’ heroics. This initiative not only promotes Jharkhand’s rich artistic heritage but also aims to connect future generations with their historical heroes.

Reviving the Legacy of Tribal Freedom Fighters

At the end of the camp, the paintings will be presented in a special exhibition. These artworks will be displayed in government offices, museums, and public places throughout Jharkhand, ensuring that future generations learn about the state’s revolutionary past.

Giving Tribal Artists International Exposure

This camp will not only help the tribal artists of Jharkhand gain recognition at the state level but will also provide them with the opportunity to present their art on national and international platforms. This initiative offers a unique chance for artists to preserve and showcase their historical heritage to the world.

The camp will conclude with a ceremony to honor outstanding artists, and the paintings will be preserved by the Jharkhand government. This step will be pivotal in giving tribal art and history the recognition it deserves, while also promoting Jharkhand’s rich culture and traditions.
