Ranchi: Independent MP from Purnia, Bihar, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, has written to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, requesting Z-category security. In his letter, Yadav claimed that he has been receiving repeated death threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and other criminal organizations. He alleged that both the central and Bihar governments have failed to provide him with adequate security despite the seriousness of the threats.
Timeline of Threats
Pappu Yadav revealed that the threats started in October 2024 after the murder of former MLA Baba Siddiqui in Mumbai, an incident for which the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility. Following this, Yadav had publicly challenged the gang on social media, vowing to end their operations within 24 hours.
On December 7, the Aman Sahu gang from Jharkhand, allegedly linked to gangster Mayank Singh, issued threats to Yadav through Facebook. In the post, Mayank wrote, “You decide whether you want to reform or rest in peace.” He also accused Yadav of gaining publicity by orchestrating threats and bringing up the Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s name unnecessarily.
Central and State Security Negligence
In his letter to the Jharkhand CM, Yadav expressed frustration over the lack of action from both the central and Bihar governments. He claimed that political reasons were behind their inaction. Earlier, on October 21, Yadav had written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting an upgrade from his existing Y-category security to Z-category security. However, his plea went unanswered.
Yadav stated that the threats have intensified since he was elected as a member of the 18th Lok Sabha. He claimed that criminals, liquor mafias, and gangs, both domestic and international, have been targeting him and his family.
Luxury Bulletproof Vehicle, Yet No Safety
Amid escalating threats, a close friend gifted Yadav a ₹2.5 crore bulletproof Land Cruiser to ensure his safety. However, just a day after receiving the vehicle, Yadav reportedly got a death threat from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. In an audio message, the caller, claiming to be from the gang, demanded ₹5 crore as extortion money, stating, “Goldy Bhai said to demand ₹5 crore. If he doesn’t pay, kill him.”
Police and Administration’s Response
The Purnia police confirmed the threats and have taken some measures to ensure Yadav’s safety. Purnia SP Kartikey Sharma said, “The MP already has Y-category security, but we have further strengthened his protection.”
In December, a person who sent a threatening video message to Yadav was arrested. Interestingly, the accused turned out to be a former supporter of the MP.
Appeal to Jharkhand Government
As threats from gangs like Lawrence Bishnoi’s and Aman Sahu’s continue, Yadav has now turned to the Jharkhand government for help. He urged CM Hemant Soren to provide him Z-category security, emphasizing the severity of the risks he faces.
The situation highlights ongoing concerns about political figures being targeted by organized crime and the challenges of ensuring their safety amidst political and administrative hurdles.
