Ranchi: In a shocking revelation, a police informant, known as ‘Gandhi,’ was arrested by Ranchi Police for his involvement in the illegal brown sugar trade. The arrest was part of a larger operation in which four drug peddlers were captured, with over 17 grams of brown sugar seized.
The accused, identified as Arjun Sharma (alias Shera), Shailesh Kumar (alias Gandhi), Rajneesh Kumar Singh, and Ritesh Kumar, were apprehended by the police in the Sukdev Nagar area. These individuals were reportedly bringing brown sugar from Sasaram in Bihar.
City SP Rajkumar Mehta revealed that Shera and Gandhi had a criminal history, having previously been incarcerated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Despite their time in prison, they returned to the drug trade, continuing their illegal activities after their release. Gandhi, in particular, had earned the trust of the police by acting as an informant, helping arrest other drug dealers. However, his return to the drug trade shows the persistence of the criminal network.
While Gandhi had previously promised to stay away from illegal activities, his involvement in the drug business continued. Upon learning of his activities, police swiftly arrested him and his associates, dealing a blow to their operations.
The authorities have confirmed that the arrested drug dealers were sourcing their supply from Sasaram in Bihar. Names such as Ruby (alias Bhabi), Pintoo, and Ranchi’s Animesh have surfaced, with police now on the lookout for them.
In a year-long crackdown, Ranchi Police have arrested over 300 drug peddlers, sending them to jail under the NDPS Act. The operation has been a significant step in the city’s ongoing fight against the drug trade, as authorities intensify efforts to curb this growing menace.
This operation highlights the determination of Ranchi police to tackle the drug problem head-on and send a strong message to those involved in the illegal trade.
